FieldCollector is an application for iOS and Android. Its primary purpose is to help map makers do what they do best: collect source material to help them update their maps. But, it’s not limited to just cartographic map database update systems. Anyone who can receive an email can get the data that FieldCollector produces.
FieldCollector goes beyond just taking a snapshot in the field and tagging it with some lat/longs. We understand that in order to update a map, you want real evidence; real metadata, like horizontal and vertical accuracy. We also know that you want to know critical facts like how fast were you traveling when you took the photo? What direction were you traveling? What direction was your camera pointing? What zoom factor was used when you snapped the photo and subsequently cropped it?
The idea is this: We want the data that comes from the device to be useful; to be turned into real information.
